Dish Alignment - Shaw Direct Support & How To - Shaw Direct
This Blog was created to chronicle our travels in Mexico but has since morphed into something else entirely. Our periodic Mexico travels are still in here but if that is why you came here, you will have to dig a little to get to it. Try searching the Blog Archive in the right hand column. We both remember the old days. You more so than me! Three channels And, you had to get up off your ass to change them Well, much of your jargon makes no sense to me.
Like what is an LNB? I have Shaw here in Mexico and have had it for over ten years and pay for it monthly. Does this mean I am going to lose it soon? I have a huge dish on my roof. The LNB is the thingy at the end of your dish that the wires connect to. Shaw has put up a new satellite Anik G1 that they are moving programming onto, apparently the High Definition channels first.
There is nothing you can do about this as the new satellite does not cover Mexico at all. You will slowly start losing channels over the next couple of years until you reach a point where it is no longer worth it to you to keep your subscription.
As long as you keep getting the channels you regularly watch, you don't have to worry about it. Good luck with your researchwe only have one dish and one receiver for the little bit of tv that we watch.
The new sat is just a degree or two off from the other existing one and when you need to aim your dish for the RV, it's aimed at the same older sat as before. At home, just put the New LNB on the existing dish and connect and have Shaw reprogram the receiver see below and you are good to go. A couple of other caveats though, learned from my experiences.
I went on the road with the reprogrammed receiver and a dish in the RV with the old LNB and it didn't work. Shaw was good enough to reprogram the receiver back to the old LNB settings when we were on the road in Thunder Bay. Bottom line is that you should reprogram all your receivers the ones that are not obsoleted by the new LNB at your leisure at home, or stay with the older receivers attached to the old LNB's until you are forced to upgrade.
Don't mix and match LNB's! The third new sat doesn't work in the US you get a message that says the receiver has lost signal just like what happens in a bad rainstorm. All the programming seems to be available on the older 2 sats but not in HD, all the HD seems to be migrating to the new sat. I think we will eventually lose US service when the other 2 sats die but that won't be for a while yet. As you know, Bell has completely converted to a "ranged" sat and service is nil in the US.
Thanks Al. This is further complicated by the fact that Norma takes the receiver from the bedroom and puts it in the motorhome when we travel so she had access to all her recorded programs that she has not yet watched. It is good to hear that aiming the new LNB is no more difficult that aiming the old one which always uses the But then again, if it is only the HD programming that is migrating onto G1 I can probably get away with doing nothing as we seldom watch HD or can really tell the difference with my 72 year old eyes.Charges for the programming package you subscribe to are listed under the heading "Current monthly services".

They will also be upgrading the compression methods to MPEG 4. The problem for those of us in Mexico is that the footprint from this newer satellite does not reach Mexico, So as was explained to me, we are slowly loosing all of our Shaw Direct Channels.
Now for those of us who also live up north, we will need a new LNB to receive the signals from this newer bird and receivers that will receive MPEG 4. I think the series receivers do. This information came from a letter I got here up North.
Obviously this doesn't work outside of Canada. Will we be loosing Shaw completely here in Mexico?
If so let's hope we get faster internet so we can stream our TV shows. Sadly I am saying that all of the signals from the two older satellites that one can receive in all of Mexico and much of Central America are being moved to a newer satellite Anik G1 which sadly has it's signals better centered on Canada.
Sure the signals bleed over the Canadian border, in fact with a larger satellite dish the signals will reach northern California, but certainly not as far south as Mexico. This satellite is already in operation, so it is a known fact that the signals wont reach Mexico. The transition will occur in three phases with the final phase being completed by September This particular link doesn't mention moving all channels from the two Anik F satellites to G1.
This next link from Shaw talks about the transition to MPEG-4 but does not say anything about moving all channels to G1. And finally I found this in a Shaw technical forum - a long thread but go to Page 76 - Post It seems that the transition is planned such that no channels will be lost as the plan unfolds, and in the end, no channels currently on those two satellites will be moved to G1. So we should be good for receiving a signal until such time as F1R and F2 end their usable life But a couple of messages down someone says everything is moving to G1.
So who knows but looks to me like we are going to be okay as long as we have series 6xx receivers, I guess time will tell. Gosh REC I hope you are right.Pricing analytics case study
That gives us a few more years. I hope I misunderstood the technician I was talking to at Shaw Direct. Read the letter i received from Shaw. I have one series receiver that needs to be replaced. Preventative Maintenance. Refit, Refurbish and Refinish.Shaw Direct places a very solid signal across populated areas of Canada as well as allow of the U. Lower While still at a respectable level throughout Mexico, it is substantially weaker, and those snowbirds attempting to use a 60E antenna will be disappointed and often frustrated at the results while attempting to receive HD channels, found on both Anik F1R and F2 at and While standard definition channels may work fine, bad weather will rapidly interfere with HD reception.
Time of day can also make a difference, especially with an aging LNBF. A look at the second map shows that Anik F2 at West is down in level from Anik F1R, but provides coverage slightly further south into Central America. If your situation is in question, or if you want the peace of mind that comes with having extra signal margin to avoid most of these possible problems, a larger dish or two separate larger dishes can usually provide a solution.
We have used independently acquired 85 and 90 cm antennas instead of the normal 75E antenna supplied by Shaw Direct. Trying to cram two LNBFs onto a multifeed assembly such as that found on the Patriot 85E antenna can sometimes work, but it leaves little extra signal, and can be a weak link in your system that sometimes requires periodic additional re-alignment.
Two separate 85 or 90 cm dishes, each with an LNBF dedicated to that satellite only, will typically give you a 2 or 3 dB improvement over a combined LNBF for multiple satellites received on one dish. Still another method to extract more signals is to take a much larger offset dish such as a 1. But given any heavy precipitation situations, you might as well think about separate larger antennas once in the U.
It will include some HD feeds from local broadcast affiliates. Bigger antennas can sometimes perform small miracles, within reason. We predict that on the East Coast, there will be a number of locations between the latitudes of Cincinnati and Atlanta where it will be possible to receive reliable signals from ANIK G1, through the use of a sufficiently large enough antenna. We would appreciate any input from viewers during coming weeks, to see what actually works. This also allows us to introduce a new product to those with larger offset Ku-band antennas.
Global Communications has put together a number of components that can make an add-on kit for those wanting to receive Shaw Direct's Anik G1 satellite, and use existing or American-sourced Ku-band antennas instead of having to pay the rather expensive delivered cost of a 75E antenna, which will have limited areas for successful use anyway. This allows one to use an existing Ku-band antenna and replace a conventional MHz local oscillator device for the It is backwards compatible to the channel mapping given to new installed Xtended Ku systems from Shaw Direct.
Existing receivers must be remapped for the entire system, and Shaw Direct will not mix conversion schemes for individual receivers in your system.
